Fox Valley's Only Level III NICU
Rush Copley offers one of the nation's top Neonatal Intensive Care Units, receiving certification for our childbirth and infant programs two years in a row.
Rush Copley will not be holding the annual NICU reunion in 2017. We know how much our NICU families look forward to the annual celebration, and our physicians and staff will miss seeing how all of your babies have grown. We will post any future planned reunion events on the medical center's Facebook page as well as here on the website.
Peace of Mind
Expecting parents hope for a healthy baby and a perfect birth, but some babies require some extra care and that's why we're here. Rush Copley has the only designated Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in the Fox Valley and we have a neonatologist available 24/7. When you have your baby at Rush Copley, you have peace of mind knowing your baby is in the best of hands if any special care is needed.
Rush Copley Medical Center's Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) has special expertise to handle 24-hour coverage of newborns with medical challenges such as:
- Premature infants born between 23 - 25 weeks gestation and older
- Low-birth weight infants weighing as little as 450 grams
- Babies born with congenital conditions or medical complications
- Infants requiring special care, surgery or other medical issues
Rush Copley has a team of highly skilled experts specializing in the treatment of high-risk pregnancies and newborns with complex medical conditions. Our team includes neonatologists, pediatric surgeons, perinatologists, obstetricians and specially trained nurses who staff the NICU. This clinical expertise of our healthcare providers, in partnership with families, has a direct effect in successes of the infants.
The NICU has a total of nine (9) Intensive Care Beds (including an isolation suite) and an eighteen (18) bed Level II+ Intermediate Care Nursery. There is also a Cradle Room available for breastpumping or for siblings and family members to relax, watch TV, or read children's books.
Our International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC) provide support and round daily in the NICU. Mothers and babies go home with a discharge plan and are encouraged to return for weight checks or an outpatient appointment as needed.
A neonatologist (newborn specialist) is available 24 hours a day - a big comfort for expectant and new mothers.
Our Neonatal Follow-up Clinic offers comprehensive evaluations of newborns to toddlers to detect developmental delays as well as providing referrals and intervention as needed.
