What to Expect in Aurora for Neurology and Neurosurgery

  • Easy patient access: Rush neurologists and neurosurgeons at Rush Copley can see you quickly. Most of our neuroscience specialists have availability within one to two weeks, and sooner for emergency situations.
  • Specialized movement disorders care: We have a neurologist who focuses on movement disorders, such as Parkinson's disease. In addition, we offer exercise therapies (including boxing classes) designed to slow Parkinson's disease progression. We also offer Lee Silverman Voice Training (LSVT) and music and art therapy to support your quality of life.
  • Pediatric neurologist: Pediatric neurologists from Rush University Children's Hospital offer care at Rush Copley. They provide pediatric care for muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy and epilepsy, among other issues.
  • Diagnosis through Electroneurodiagnostic (END) Laboratory: Through our END lab, you can have neurodiagnostic tests in your local community that help you determine your diagnosis. Among these tests, we offer electroencephalograms (or, EEGs) to diagnose the cause of seizures. Our EEGs are interpreted by epilepsy specialists at our downtown Chicago location.
  • Neurosurgery for brain, spine, neck and back: Rush Copley neurosurgeons treat pain and other issues related to your brain, spine, neck and back. They work with you to personalize your surgery to fit your needs. They are also available for second opinions on whether surgery — and, if so, which kind — would be most helpful for your condition.
  • Spine and back surgery pre-education: If you are considering spine surgery, our nurse practitioners are available to discuss your options with you. They can assess whether having spine surgery would help. If you decide to have surgery, we offer a pre-surgery education class to help you prepare.
  • Neurointensive care unit: Patients who have neurosurgery or emergency stroke care at Rush Copley recover in our dedicated neurointensive care unit (neuro ICU). The Rush Copley neuro ICU team has specialized training in neurology and neurosurgery issues to better support your recovery.
  • Support groups: We have support groups to help you share your experience with other people going through a similar one. We have support groups for brain tumors and movement disorders.

Hear From Our Patients

Crystal Knerien was only 33 years old when her pain started. She first felt it in her knee when exercising, then in her foot. Then, the pain became constant and affected her daily life.

After more than a decade of pain, Rush Copley neurosurgeon Kevin Kelly, MD, implanted a spinal column stimulator in 2017. “I woke up with no nerve pain,” Crystal said.
