Medicare Wellness Visits
Did you know that Medicare offers a Welcome to Medicare Preventive Visit within the first year of signing up and then an Annual Wellness Visit every year after that? Both of these visits are designed to promote good health and prevent diseases for a healthy future.
Welcome to Medicare Preventive Visit
The introductory Welcome to Medicare Preventive Visit is available to you within the first 12 months of your enrollment in Medicare Part B. This visit is a one time only exam and is designed around health maintenance and disease prevention. During the exam, your prescriptions, medical history, and family history will be reviewed. Your doctor will discuss your risk factors and the recommended screenings, immunizations and other preventive services you will need to promote good health now and in the future.
Annual Wellness Visit
Once you have been enrolled in Medicare for over 12 months you will qualify for an Annual Wellness Visit. This visit is covered once every 12 months and is available to you even if you did not have the introductory Welcome to Medicare Preventive Visit. The Annual Wellness Visit is designed to create or update a personalized prevention plan for you. Your complete health history will be reviewed and you will be screened for depression, fall risk, home safety, and cognitive impairment.
The Welcome to Medicare Preventive Visit and the Annual Wellness Visit give you an excellent opportunity to discuss your overall well being with your doctor and put a plan in place for future healthcare, but please note that they do not replace your annual physical (head-to-toe exam). Please review your plan to learn more about all the covered services offered during these visits.
