Special Practices & Procedures
A hospitalist specializes in managing complex medical issues in the care of hospitalized patients. Hospitalists work closely with primary care physicians and communicate frequently to ensure that the primary care physician is aware of the patient’s condition. Hospitalists do not have an office practice. They focus on patients in the hospital so that complications and other needs can be quickly addressed. When the patient is discharged, the hospitalist will direct the patient back to their primary care physician. Often a patient’s hospital care requires consultation from several different specialists. Hospitalists assist in coordinating all of these specialists and keep the patient and their family informed. By using a hospitalist, a primary care physician has more time to dedicate to a patient’s office visits.
