Rush Copley Earns Another “A” for Patient Safety in Spring Score Release
Hospital part of distinct group of "Straight A" Leapfrog hospitals
Aurora, IL – Since 2012, Rush Copley has been awarded an “A” Hospital Safety ScoreSM by The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits. Of the 798 hospitals that earned As this spring, Rush Copley is one of only 153 nationwide that has earned an A grade in each update for the last three years, becoming part of a distinct group of "Straight A" Leapfrog hospitals. Rush Copley is also the only hospital in the Fox Valley area to achieve all As.
For the first time, the Hospital Safety Score includes five measures of patient-reported experiences like nurse communication, doctor communication and communication about discharge, as well as two of the most common infections, C.diff and MRSA. The Hospital Safety Score was compiled under the guidance of the nation’s leading experts on patient safety and is designed to give the public information they can use to protect themselves and their families.
“Rush Copley is pleased to be recognized again with this honor by Leapfrog,” said Barry C. Finn, president and CEO of Rush-Copley. “Rush-Copley’s team continues to raise the bar for patient safety and patient experience – from process improvements to empowering front line staff – to provide the highest level of care for our community.”
Rush-Copley, a quality leader among Chicagoland area hospitals, meets or exceeds national benchmarks for many quality and safety measures. The medical center holds more accreditations and disease-specific certifications than any other area hospital and has earned disease-specific certifications from the Joint Commission in maternal/fetal medicine and newborn care; stroke care, joint replacement for hip and knee, heart failure and spine surgery.
