Rush Copley Medical Group and Atlas Physical Therapy Collaborate to Provide Participation Physicals to Special Olympic Athletes
(Aurora, IL) More than 2.5 million Special Olympics athletes in more than 175 countries participate in games and events organized by Special Olympics each year. But before their events, Special Olympics athletes are required to have a comprehensive sports physical.
On November 18, Rush Copley Medical Group and Atlas Physical Therapy hosted a MedFest event. MedFest offers Special Olympics Programs a fast and effective way to recruit new athletes and retain existing athletes by offering free sports physicals. Screenings assess blood pressure, temperature, pulse, height, weight, body mass index, vision, hearing, medical history, potential medication side effects and general physical health.
Dr. Deepak Patel and Dr. Garrett Katula of Rush Copley Medical Group volunteered their time to provide free participation physicals at the event hosted by Atlas Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine Centers.
“Our team along with Drs. Patel and Katula were pleased to be able to support these athletes and provide their needed physicals,” said Chuck Clark, Director of Atlas Physical Therapy. “Ensuring that athletes of all ages and skill levels are healthy and ready to participate is an essential part of safe sports competition.”
