Rush Copley Presents Family Caregiver Seminar

(Aurora, IL)  Rush Copley will present a Family Caregiver Seminar for Parkinson’s disease on Saturday, November 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Rush-Copley’s Heart Institute, on the Rush Copley Medical Center campus in Aurora.

This free half-day seminar is for spouses, relatives, or friends who care for or live with someone who has Parkinson’s disease.  

The seminar will include:

Home Modifications for Safety and Independence

Cindy Shaw & Rein Puttkammer, Home for Life Advantage, Inc. Common residential features can present themselves as barriers to independent living.  Accessible design and home modifications can offer solutions to those barriers, promote independence, and prevent injuries for both the caregiver and patients.  This interactive session will evaluate your every day road blocks and provide suggestions for viable solutions to keep you in your home safely and independently.

LSVT BIG & LOUD: Improving Motor and Vocal Abilities

Elizabeth Miller, M.A., CCC-SLP-L, Manjusha Potdukhe, PT, DPT, Rush Copley Physical Rehabilitation

This program will introduce the LSVT BIG and LOUD programs and review how the skills learned can benefit patients.  Caregivers will understand their role in maintaining the learned techniques and how the programs can foster independence in the person with Parkinson’s.

Making the decision to enlist home care can be challenging.  Learn when it is time to call in reinforcements, what your options are for in home care and the services each provides.  This program will also provide tips for choosing the right type of service including locating and evaluating home care providers.
