Medical Equipment at Home

As a patient receiving a total hip or knee replacement, you may temporarily require additional medical equipment at home. Your therapist will work with you to determine your personal needs. These items may include:

You will be using these items for such a short amount of time.

• Items may be available at stores such as Wal-Mart, Meijer, CVS and Walgreens, included the location on Rush-Copley's campus.
• Items like shower chair, grab bars, and elevated toilet seats are available at Home Depot, Lowes and Menards as well.
• Some civic organizations keep an equipment "closet" and will loan out some equipment. Try VFW, American Legion, Knights of Columbus or area churches.
• Some local Durable Medical Equipment providers are also listed below. This is not a complete list of providers and there may be others located in your area.
• Check with your insurance company to see if the equipment will be covered. Walkers are typically covered by medicare and most insurance companies. Unfortunately, other assistive devices are usually not covered.
