Flu Vaccination

An annual seasonal flu vaccine is the best way to reduce the chances that you will get seasonal flu and lessen the chance that you will spread it to others.  The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices which advises the Centers for Disease Control recommends annual flu shots for everyone age 6 months and older.

The seasonal flu vaccine for both adults and children is now available for  established patients with Rush-Copley Medical Group. This vaccine includes protection against three flu viruses, an H3N2 virus, an influenza B virus and the H1N1 virus.

Fluzone Intradermal and High-dose

Rush-Copley Medical Group offices also have Fluzone intradermal and Fluzone High-Dose influenza vaccine.

Fluzone intradermal is injected into the skin instead of the muscle. The intradermal shot uses a much smaller needle than the regular flu shot, and it requires less antigen to be as effective as the regular flu shot. Antigen is the part of the vaccine that helps your body build up protection against flu viruses.

Fluzone High-Dose influenza vaccine is for patients 65 years of age or older. This vaccine was created with a higher dose of antigen in order to give older people (65 years of age or older) a better immune response and therefore better protection against flu.
