We Have the HPV Vaccine

Our office is now offering the HPV vaccine, called Gardasil. The CDC's advisory committee has recently recommended this new vaccine to protect against the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). It is the first vaccine developed to prevent cervical cancer and cervical warts due to HPV, which account for 70% of cervical cancers.

Gardasil can benefit girls as young as 9 and as old as 26. It is given as a 3 month series (0,2,6 months). It should be administered before the onset of sexual activity, but females who are sexually active should be still be vaccinated. The vaccine does not replace having Pap tests as often as your doctor recommends.

The vaccine costs $170 per dose plus an administration fee. As with all vaccines, check with your insurance about coverage. Also, ask about our cash pay discount.

If you or your child are interested in the vaccine, ask your doctor for more information.
