Do you have the HPV vaccine?
Yes. The vaccine called Gardasil is available for girls between the ages of 9 and 26. It is given as a series of 3 vaccines, at 0, 2 and 6 months and should be administered before onset of sexual activity, but females who are sexually active should still be vaccinated. I am pregnant and suffering from a cold. What should I do?
Try to increase your fluid intake to keep secretions loose and get extra rest to help your defense system work on its own. You may also want to try using a vaporizer or steam tent. If your throat is bothering you, take a throat lozenge. Gargling with salt water or Cepacol mouthwash might also help. If your cough worsens when you lay down, post nasal drainage may be the cause. A decongestant like Sudafed may help. If your cough comes from the chest, an expectorant or cough suppresant such as Robitussin or Robitussin DM may help. If your cough tires you during the day, keeps you awake at night or is productive with a fever call the office at 630-978-4800. Over the counter cold preparations are commonly considered safe, but there have not been extensive studies done on pregnant women. Therefore, it is prefereed that their use be none to minimal during pregnancy, especially during the first three months. When your cold symptoms are so severe that you HAVE to take something choose a cold preparation with just a single ingredient, like Sudafed. Take it only as needed. Let it wear off to see if you really need to take it again. You should also call the office if you experience any of the following symptoms as a result of your cold: a fever over 101 degress that does not subside after taking Tylenol and drinking fluids, an earache that is draining, persists more than 24 hours or is associated with a fever, a sore throat that is persistent, especially accompanied by a fever or colored nasal drainage.
