Chuck Schwab, R.N., MBA

Why did you choose nursing as a career?

It was suggested to me back in high school that I should get into healthcare.  I really wanted to do something business-related though, so I did both.  Nursing as a career offers endless opportunities.

What makes nursing at Rush-Copley so special?

Everyday I see the dedication that Rush-Copley nurses have for their patients.  This is a culture that, over time, has allowed the nurses to take care of their surrounding communities.  Because the majority of the nurses live here in the communities they serve, there is a special commitment between the nurses and patients.

What is your favorite aspect of nursing?

Everyday is different.  As nurses, we have a basic skill set that all nurses encompass.  The real fun is the specialty that you choose to work in.  You can work in an office, school, hospital, nursing home or in business.  The opportunities are countless.

Do you have any advice for those interested in a nursing career?

I would suggest volunteering in a hospital or as a nurse's aide.  You will get a preemptive look at what you will be doing.  If you still want to be a nurse, go for it.

Is there a moment in your service at Rush-Copley that stands out in your mind?

There is perhaps a series of moments that stand out.  I am proud to work in an environment in which senior nursing leadership is in touch with the nursing staff.  Nursing leadership gets to know nurses by their names and take the time to listen to nurses needs.  This is just one of many examples that contributes to a highly successful and dedicated organization.
