CT Heart Score/CT Lung Screening

This is a very quick and easy exam.  Please dress comfortably and refrain from wearing any metal around the chest area, especially bras with metal clips or underwires.  Payment is due at the time of the exam.  A prescription is not required unless you are under 40 years of age.

CT Abdomen and Pelvis with IV and Oral contrast

Dress comfortably and refrain from wearing any metal near area being scanned. It is important to not have any solid food for two hours prior to the exam.  However, it is also important to be well hydrated so drink plenty of fluids the day before and day of the exam.  This is important because it helps protect your kidneys.

You will also be asked to drink a flavored oral contrast called barium (tastes best cold). The timing and amount depends on if you are having an abdomen only, a pelvis only or both. Barium may be picked up at our office, and in some cases may be available through your referring physician.

ABDOMEN only:   ½ bottle 4 hours before, ½ bottle 2 hours before exam.
PELVIS only:   1 bottle night before, 1 small bottle 2 hours before exam.
ABDOMEN AND PELVIS: 1 bottle night before, 1 bottle 2 hours before exam.

Mammography

Bring your previous outside studies with you for comparison. It is important to not wear deodorant, lotion or powders on your chest or underarms, since small particles in these products can sometimes mimic signs of cancer.  If necessary, use only a small focused amount of deodorant and wipe off in the dressing room just prior to receiving your exam.  Deodorant is provided for you after the exam.

Ultrasound of the Abdomen

In order to see the gallbladder and other abdominal organs clearly, it is important to not have any solid food or chew gum for 4-6 hours prior to the exam (the longer the fast the better). Fluids and medications are permitted.

U/S Pelvis or Retroperitoneum

It is important to have a full bladder for this exam to see all structures clearly.  Please empty your bladder one hour prior to the appointment time, then drink 4 full 8-oz glasses of water (32 oz. total).   Finish drinking by 30 minutes prior to appointment to fill bladder completely.  Do not empty your bladder until told by technologist.

Xray

No special prep required.  Although walk-ins are available during daytime hours and some evenings, appointments may also be made in advance to eliminate wait time.
