Lactation Center

Breastfeeding is the preferred method of feeding by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the World Health Organization. Breastfeeding has many proven advantages for both babies and mothers.

  • Contains antibodies that protect against allergies, viral and bacterial infections including ear infections, meningitis and diarrhea

Breastfeeding Services Available at Rush-Copley

Rush-Copley’s Lactation Center offers many resources to help you and your baby have a successful breastfeeding experience. In fact, our breastfeeding rate is over 90 percent – much higher than the national average.

Our Lactation Center is staffed seven days a week by International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC), which means they are specially-trained to help mothers learn the technique of breastfeeding, provide breastfeeding information and prevent and solve any breastfeeding problems.

The center is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with some evening hours and can be reached by calling 630-978-6235. Spanish speaking lactation consultants are also available.

Inpatient Services

Our lactation consultants are available for breastfeeding assistance and education during your hospital stay. Free manual breast pumps are provided to all breastfeeding mothers in the hospital and breast pump kits are available as needed. In addition, the center offers special support for mothers of multiples and babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

Outpatient Services

The Lactation Center provides breastfeeding assistance even after you leave the hospital. Success with breastfeeding is our top priority during this important time while transitioning home. The center is designed to offer the same comfort and privacy as your own home.

  • Free weight checks
  • Free phone consultations
  • Outpatient services for breastfeeding assistance
  • Prenatal consultations by phone or appointment
  • Breast pump rental and sales

The Lactation Center’s pump rental station sells Ameda Egnell and Medela pumps as well as pump parts and milk storage bags. Medela pumps are also available for rental.

Prenatal Breastfeeding

Find out about the basic techniques and health benefits of breastfeeding your baby. Taught by a certified lactation consultant. Learn More.

Working and Breastfeeding

Learn how you can continue to breastfeed your baby after returning to work. A certified lactation consultant and working mom teaches this unique class which covers pumping and storing milk, childcare and more. Prerequisite: Prenatal Breastfeeding Class or previous breastfeeding experience. Learn More.

Breastfeeding Beyond the First Few Weeks

This class covers normal infant growth and development and how it impacts breastfeeding. Topics include growth spurts, sleep patterns, teething, introduction of solids, separation anxiety and much more. Taught by a certified lactation consultant. Learn More.
