Introducing Rush-Copley's Neuroscience Institute

The Neuroscience Institute offers advanced technology and expertise to design the most effective treatment for your condition. Specialists in neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, neurology, physiatry and other specialties work in a multi-disiplinary approach to provide the most up to date expertise.

Technology That Makes Yesterday's Impossible Today's Reality

Rush-Copley's commitment to offering the most advanced technology is exemplified by the Neuroscience Institute's capabilities.  Development of implants, fusion techniques, instrumentation, and artificial discs that preserves motion and restores disc height are now available to treat the spine patient.  In surgery, the brain lab offers a virtual reality, 3-D sterotactic image guided system to pinpoint tumors.

Research

The Neuroscience Institute offers a variety of Research protocols to treat spinal conditions.  A few of the studies that are currently underway include:

  • Artifical Disc for lumbar and cervical spine
  • Use of autologus growth factors to promote rate of bone growth after an instrumentation fusion of the spine
  • Use of the cervical cage in the neck (cervical) region of the spine
  • Polylock - a type of fusion instrumentation
  • Telescopic plate spacer for patients with a tumor in the cervical spine that needs to be stabilized, align the spine and reduce compression of the cord

Breakthrough Techniques to Relieve Pain

In partnership with the Pain Clinic many patients with spine disease are able to be managed and pain controlled without surgery. The pain of carpal tunnel syndrome can be alleviated with a minimally invasive surgery, endoscopic carpal tunnel release, which leaves less scarring and swelling — and delivers immediate improvement after the 45-minute procedure.

Diagnosing & Treating Strokes

Rush-Copley’s dedicated physicians excel in the treatment and diagnosis of strokes. Special protocols assess patients so treatment is quick and accurate, which helps reduce deficits and improve outcomes. To learn more about ways to reduce your risk of stroke and stroke signs and symptoms visit the American Stroke Association Web site at: www.strokeassociation.org.

Holistic, Comprehensive Care

From the expert diagnostics to surgery through rehabilitation, you’ll find compassionate, comprehensive care. A full-time physiatrist oversees the Fox Valley’s only acute inpatient rehabilitation unit focusing on: physical, occupational, speech and psychiatric therapies; nutritional counseling; and social services for the best possible outcomes. This comprehensive approach addresses the needs of the patient and the family, which is extremely important when treating brain, spine and other neurologic disorders.

You’ll be impressed. Promise.
