Curriculum Overview

A significant portion of the resident experience takes place at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, Illinois. There are also rotations at Linden Oaks Hospital, an inpatient psychiatric hospital located 10 miles from the medical center. The Geriatrics rotation takes palce at Hillside Healthcare Center.
All clinical rotations are intended to provide a structured, comprehensive experience to fully train family medicine physicians. Each rotation provides residents with appropriate supervision, yet allows residents to take increasing responsibility in decision making and management of patients. This approach reinforces the development of competent technical and clinical skills.
In addition to clinical rotations, residents follow their own panel of patients in the Family Medicine Center (FMC). Under faculty supervision, residents spend increasing time in the FMC. Emphasis is placed on caring for undifferentiated patients of all ages. Preventive care is stressed in addition to the care of common ambulatory problems, low risk obstetrics, and practice management.
Scholarly activities including Grand Round presentations are required of all residents. Residents are expected to learn some research fundamentals and contribute to a research and/or improvement project. Completion of a research paper is optional.
