Curriculum Overview

A significant portion of the resident experience takes place at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, Illinois. There are also rotations at Linden Oaks Hospital, an inpatient psychiatric hospital located 10 miles from the medical center. Geriatric rotations include experiences at Hillside Healthcare Center.
All clinical rotations are intended to provide a structured, comprehensive experience to fully train family practice physicians. Each rotation provides residents with appropriate supervision, yet allows residents to take increasing responsibility in decision making and management of patients. This approach reinforces the development of competent technical and clinical skills.
In addition to clinical rotations, residents develop a panel of patients in the Family Medicine Center (FMC) to develop ambulatory medicine experience. Under faculty supervision, residents spend increasing time in the FMC. Emphasis is placed on caring for undifferentiated patients of all ages. Preventive care is stressed in addition to the care of common ambulatory problems and normal obstetrics. Residents have the opportunity to learn all aspects of practice management.
Scholarly activities including Grand Round presentations are required of all residents. Research on clinical issues is encouraged, but not required.
