Vision 2010: A Strategic Evolution

With its founding in 1886 as Aurora City Hospital, Rush-Copley Medical Center has a rich history of providing healthcare services to the greater Aurora community.

Since moving to the far east side of Aurora in 1995, Rush-Copley Medical Center has continued its tradition of caring and strengthening its service to the community:

  • Growing and expanding services to meet the needs of the rapidly growing population
  • Recruiting physicians and other healthcare resources to provide appropriate access to a progressive, demanding market
  • Creating a workplace environment attractive to professionals and either staff in an increasingly competitive labor market
  • Launching five Centers of Excellence - called "Institutes" - demonstrating a commitment to excellence in the provision of cancer care, cardiovascular services, emergency services, women's health and neuroscience
  • Investing in technology to enhance patient safety, provide innovative medical diagnostic and treatment services and improve communication with consumers, physicians and staff.

Rush-Copley will continue these efforts toward transforming into a "regional medical center."  In doing so, it becomes necessary to look ahead to the organization's future vision.  President and CEO Barry C. Finn has announced a strategic plan that not only sets a course of action for next year, but positions the medical center for the year 2010 and beyond.

"Vision 2010 is the first step in the evolution of our strategic direction,” said Finn. “Typically strategic plans cover a year or two’s worth of objectives. Our plan goes beyond and is our vision for our transformation into a regional medical center.”

The vision includes serving a patient population of 450,000 people in the 185-200 bed hospital.  By 2010, Rush-Copley will likely generate total revenue $300 million and have outpatient revenue represent 60 percent of total revenue.  Additional elements of the vision include:

  • Dominate market share in all Institutes
  • Lead market in customer and physician satisfaction with scores in the 95th percentile or higher
  • Achieve and sustain Magnet designation
  • Employee satisfaction at 95th percentile
  • Renowned technology leader with full system integration, wireless applications and eHealth initiatives
  • Become an A+ financially rated hospital—with ready access to capital.

Rush-Copley’s Institutes also have a stated vision for 2010.
