Central Line Related Blood Stream Infection Rate
Number of central line infections in all units per 1,000 central line days
Why is it important? Central Venous Catheters are increasingly being used in both the inpatient and outpatient settings to provide long-term venous access. However, these catheters disrupt the integrity of the skin, making infection possible. Preventing central line related blood stream infections is important because if the infection spreads to the bloodstream, complications may result including prolonged hospitalization or even death.
How do we compare? BETTER than the national rate for the best quartile.
