Rush-Copley to Host Community Cancer Conference

(4/11/07)  More than 1.3 million people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer this year. To help community learn more about prevention, detection and treatment of cancer, Rush-Copley Medical Center is hosting a Community Cancer Conference on Saturday, May 5 at the North Island Center at the Copley Theatre in Aurora.  

Connie Payton, author of Stronger Than Cancer: Treasured Insights from the Hearts and Homes of Families Fighting Cancer, and wife of the late Chicago Bear’s great Walter Payton, will be the keynote speaker.

Rush-Copley physicians will present the following topics:

  • Cancer Basics: Causes, Prevention and Treatments
    Kaushik Patel, M.D. and Lorna London, Ph.D.
  • Nutrition and Your Health: Foods that Reduce Your Cancer Risk
    Richard Steslow, D.O.
  • What Women Should Know About Cancer Prevention
    Laura Avila, M.D.
  • Your Cancer Risk: Evaluating Your Environmental, Genetic and Lifestyle Risk Factors
    Fatima Khan, M.D.
  • Cervical Cancer Prevention: The Good, Bad and Ugly
    Rosemary Espinoza, M.D.

The event will also feature health screenings, massage therapy, yoga demonstrations and much more.  A continental breakfast will be provided.  The event cosponsors include River West Radiation Therapy Center, Aurora University, Kane County Health Department, Kendall County Health Department, the American Cancer Society, LivingWell Cancer Resource Center and the Rush-Copley Healthplex.
