Barry C. Finn, MBA, CPA

Dynamic leader, strategic thinker, team builder and effective administrator are terms that describe Barry Finn, president and CEO of Rush-Copley Medical Center. Carrying on the tradition of excellence established at Rush-Copley, Barry continues to work toward bringing state-of-the-art healthcare services to the rapidly growing Fox Valley area. Barry was named president and CEO in 2002 after serving in the roles of Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer since 1996. His 20+ years of experience in the healthcare industry have been a boon to the medical center, as has his unparalleled leadership and administration of healthcare resources in a challenging era of fiscal management and rapid technological change.
After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Northern Illinois University he attained certification as a public accountant, and then went on to receive a Masters of Business Administration degree with an emphasis in Marketing and Strategy from J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University.

John Diederich, M.A., MBA
Senior Vice President, Operations
Chief Operating Officer
As both the watchdog and steward of patient resources at Rush-Copley Medical Center, John Diederich has proven his mettle in a tough economic environment. He has honed his expertise over the last decade and risen through the ranks to become an accomplished strategic thinker, skilled operations administrator and affable leader.
As COO, John oversees the daily clinical, ancillary and support operations of the hospital, including administrative responsibility of all medical center construction projects.
He received his Bachelor of Business Administration, specializing in management science from University of Iowa, where he also earned a Master of Arts degree in hospital and health administration and a Master of Business Administration degree.
John, his wife and three children make their home in Aurora where he is an active Board member of the Greater Aurora Chamber of Commerce, the Marmion Academy Board of Trustees, the Marmion Academy Alumni Association, and the Kiwanis Club of Aurora.

Steven B. Lowenthal, M.D.
Senior Vice President, Medical Affairs
Chief Medical Officer
As Senior Vice President, Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Lowenthal is the primary liaison between the Medical Staff and Administration of Rush-Copley Medical Center.
Dr. Lowenthal's primary responsibilities include oversight of Medical Staff credentialing, privileging and bylaws, the family practice residency program, and continuing medical education for physicians. He also is responsible for clinical quality management and performance improvement, patient safety, physician relations and physician services as well as the Neuroscience Institute.
Dr. Lowenthal brings a myriad of expertise to the medical center including patient safety, clinical informatics and its use in evidenced based clinical practice as well as Six Sigma Black Belt Training, a highly disciplined management strategy that focuses on process and quality improvement, and physician practice management. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from The Chicago Medical School, Chicago. In New York, he completed one year of General Surgery residency before moving to Los Angeles, California where he completed residency training in Urology. He also earned a Master of Public Health degree in health services administration from the Medical College of Wisconsin.
A third generation physician, Dr Lowenthal and his wife reside in Riverwoods and are the parents of four children.

Mac Salazar, MBA
Senior Vice President, Finance
Chief Financial Officer
With nearly 30 years of healthcare experience, Mac Salazar brings a high level of financial expertise to Rush-Copley Medical Center. Mac joined the Rush-Copley team in 1999 and currently serves as Senior Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer.
His primary responsibilities at the medical center include oversight of all financial matters such as negotiating contracts, managing reimbursement issues, and administering the process of budget preparation and accountability. He is also responsible for materials management, the Rush-Copley Healthplex, legal affairs, medical records and property leasing and management through Copley Ventures.
He received his Bachelor of Science degree in finance from Central Missouri State University and his Master of Business Administration in accounting from University of Missouri.
Since arriving in the community in 1990, Mac has served on several community boards including the United Way, Association for Individual Development, Family Counseling, Aurora Foundation and the Oswego Economic Development Corp. He lives in Aurora with his wife and three children.

Mary Shilkaitis, R.N., M.S.
Vice President, Clinical Services
Patient Safety Officer
The pursuit of superior clinical care has an enthusiastic champion in Mary Shilkaitis. She joined the administrative team in 2002 as the Vice President, Clinical Services.
Her primary responsibilities include management of the Women's Health Center, the Cancer Care Center, women's diagnostic services, the pharmacy and surgical services. Mary received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Illinois Wesleyan University and her Master of Science degree in management from National Louis University.
For the last 15 years, Mary has been taken on many challenges including the development of obstetrics and pediatric services, a neonatal intensive care unit, a pediatric intensive care unit and outpatient specialty clinics. She lives in Naperville with her husband and two children.

Shawn Tyrrell, MSN, CNAA
Vice President, Nursing Services
Chief Nursing Officer
In a profession where coalition building is key, Shawn Tyrrell, Vice President, Nursing Services stands as a visionary leader willing to empower staff to find innovative solutions to today's most difficult operational dilemmas. As a strong clinician herself, she is in a position to advocate for patients as well as understand the awesome challenges faced by medical professionals every day.
Her responsibilities include administrative oversight for patient care services, and the Neuroscience Institute. She brings her considerable expertise to program development, budget management and nursing administration. Shawn received her Associate Degree from Triton College, her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Lewis University and her Master of Science in Nursing degree specializing in maternal/child health from Loyola University.
In addition to her position at Rush-Copley Medical Center, Shawn is an adjunct faculty member at several universities. A resident of Naperville, Shawn has three children and is active in her community.

Nancy J. Wilson, R.N., BSN, MBA
Vice President, Ancillary Services
In the complex healthcare environment, Nancy Wilson has emerged as a leader in operational turn-around, high standards of patient care and promoting a team atmosphere.
As Vice President, Ancillary Services, her primary responsibilities include Emergency Services, Pharmacy, Heart Institute, Hospitality Services and the Yorkville campus operations. As a leader of emergency services at Rush-Copley, Nancy most recently oversaw the department's renovation and expansion.
A committed and invaluable member of the Rush-Copley team, Nancy has worked in numerous nursing and management roles at the hospital over the last 24 years.
Nancy received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Aurora College and her Master of Business Administration from Aurora University. Nancy serves on the board of the Yorkville Economic Development Council. She has one son and lives in Yorkville with her husband.

Dennis DeMasie
Vice President, Information Technology
Chief Information Officer
A highly effective leader on the cutting edge of technology, Dennis DeMasie is no stranger to strategic planning, hospital operations and information systems management. With over 20 years of healthcare experience, he joined Rush-Copley in 2007.
As Vice President of Technology and Chief Information Officer, Dennis is responsible for development and implementation of information technology initiatives and all operational activities of the IT department.
Dennis earned his B.S. in Computer Technology from Purdue University and his MBA in Healthcare Administration from the University of Phoenix. He is a member of the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives, the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society, and the American Hospital Association. Dennis is married, has four children and resides in Yorkville.

Diane D. Homan, M.D.
Vice President, Quality
A profound commitment to patient safety and hospital compliance are two areas under the watchful eye of Diane Homan, M.D. As Vice President, Quality, she works diligently to ensure collaborative communication among the clinical and medical staffs alike, culminating in the most optimal patient outcomes. She is also focused on ensuring hospital compliance with all regulatory organizations.
A physician at heart, Dr. Homan is the director of Rush-Copley's Family Practice Residency Program. While educating residents and medical students, her emphasis lies in teaching the benefits and rewards of caring for special-needs groups and the importance of giving back to the community.
A registered nurse for 10 years prior to obtaining her medical degree in 1984, Dr. Homan is board certified in family medicine. She lives in Sugar Grove with her husband and two sons.

Brenda Van Wyhe, MBA, CPA
Vice President, Finance
Strong financial skills and technical project expertise, combined with a strong sense of fiscal responsibility are what make Brenda Van Wyhe a highly effective finance administrator.
Brenda joined the administrative team in 2006 as Assistant Vice President, Finance. Her responsibilities include budgeting, financial reporting and analysis, A/R management, medical records and materials management.
Brenda received her Bachelor of Science degree from Clarion University of Pennsylvania and her Master of Business Administration degree from DePaul University. She is a CPA and has served as an adjunct instructor for Aurora University. Brenda resides in Oswego with her husband and daughter.
