Your Care Team

Physicians

A hospital is only as good as its doctors.  There are more than 400 experienced doctors on the Rush-Copley medical staff.  Your doctor is a member of the medical staff and has admitted you to the hospital.  Your physician will order tests, medications and treatments as well as determine when you’re ready to go home.

Nurses

Florence Nightingale’s vision for nursing was to treat the whole person, and the nurses at Rush-Copley do just that.  Nurses are committed to serving your needs – and the needs of your family – throughout your physical, spiritual and emotional journey of healing.  Nurses collaborate with your physician and other team members to plan your care and to educate you on the extent of your illness or injury.

Case Manager

Your case manager coordinates all aspects of your care.  You most likely will receive a call from the case manager before your hospital stay.

Clinical Associate

Your clinical associate works with your nurse to change your dressings or to handle other basic care needs such as bathing.

Center Secretary

These members of your team order and schedule your tests, answer telephone calls and help family members and visitors with questions.

Chaplain/Pastoral Care

The pastoral care team provides spiritual and emotional support for you and your family members.  The team can also assist in contacting your own clergy person and in providing for your special sacramental, religious or cultural needs.

Dietitian

Dietitians create a diet that fits your treatment plan.  They also advise you on setting and meeting long-range nutritional goals.

Discharge Planners

These professionals help you transition to home or other care resources outside the hospital.

Hospitality Associate

Hospital associates ensure that your room is comfortable and clean.

Occupational Therapist

These therapist help patients regain or develop the ability to perform everyday tasks such as dressing, cooking, eating and bathing.

Patient Advocate

With your satisfaction as Rush-Copley’s priority, the patient advocate provides immediate attention to any concerns about your care or to needs you want met. 

Pharmacists

Pharmacists review and check every medication order and provide medication counseling to you and your family during your stay. 

Physical Therapists

Through exercise and rehabilitation, physical therapists will help you regain physical independence after surgery, injury or illness.

Radiologic Technologists

If you require imaging tests during your stay, these technologists will offer CAT scan, MRI, ultrasound and X-ray.

Recreational Therapists

These healthcare professionals provide patients, who are here for a longer time, with opportunities to participate in leisure activities including games, art projects and organized events.

Residents

Residents are licensed physicians completing advanced training in specialty areas.  They are essentially doctors in training who work with doctors on the medical staff.

Respiratory Care Therapists

These therapists care for those with breathing problems.  They use advanced technology and provide information on the breathing care plan.

Social Workers

These professionals provide social, emotional, financial and family support and can refer you to community support networks and resources.

Speech Language Pathologists

When an illness or injury affects speech, you may meet with a speech pathologist to work out a plan for improvement of speech, language, voice and swallowing.

Students

Rush-Copley has educational partnerships with area high schools and colleges.  Students, accompanied by healthcare workers, may at times visit patients.

Volunteers

Volunteers provide a variety of services including transporting patients, offering reading material, overseeing the gift shop, pet therapy program and much more.
