Thoracic surgeons are medical doctors who specialize in chest,
heart, and lung surgery. Thoracic surgeons may further specialize in one area,
such as heart surgery or lung surgery, or in a subspecialty of that area, such
as coronary artery bypass surgery.
Thoracic surgeons can be
board-certified through the Board of Thoracic Surgery, which is recognized by
the American Board of Medical Specialties.
